How many inputs and outputs are available at 88.2kHz or 96kHz?

When running at the higher sample rates of 88.2kHz or 96kHz on the Saffire Pro 40, you will lose some ADAT channels. This is standard place when using ADAT, as ADAT only supports the full eight channels at 44.1kHz and 48kHz.

At 88.2kHz or 96kHz, the total channel count of the Saffire Pro 40 becomes 16 in, and 16 out (when including SPDIF and Loop Back). This is because both the ADAT input and ADAT outputs are now only able to pass four channels each way.

Larger units such as the Liquid Saffire 56 can compensate for this by using SMUX, which allows for channels to be regained by connecting two optical cables instead of one, but the Saffire Pro 40 has only one ADAT input port and one ADAT output port, so can not make use of SMUX capabilities.
