I am currently the FOH Engineer for Linkin Park. I have worked for many other artists over the past twenty years. These include KISS, Kid Rock, Guns N Roses, Pantera, Whitney Houston. Right now I mix Front of House live shows for Linkin Park, and remix the multi tracked shows for release to the web, as well as TV and other live appearances. I was nominated for a Grammy for Linkin Park: Live at Milton Keynes, which was a DVD release in 2010.
My workflow is this: Once a show is completed, I head to the tour bus and mix and edit on a 17" MacBook Pro and a pair of Audio Technica ATH50 headphones. I have mixed this way going down the road for five years now, to relatively good success, but having VRM box really gives me the edge of having the ability to spot check my mixes without actually having to go set up a system with real speakers. It saves me a great deal of time. Now with VRM box, I have a portable set up that emulates speakers instead of "guessing" and trusting my template.
I use VRM Box because of the reputation and respect Focusrite has in the industry as well as this being the only REAL speaker emulation box for headphones, which is perfect for my application. Nobody else makes anything like this, and to have a well-respected company make it is awesome.
The first thing I did was to compare several sets of my own speakers against the emulation. I own a pair of NS10's (circa 1980's) and the emulation of the Japanese white cones are pretty damn close. I also own a pair of Genelec’s and compared those as well. I really like the speaker comparisons and the ability to quickly "travel" from different types of speakers, including a quick button that shuts the emulation off. Real speakers versus emulation with headphones. Pretty impressive really.
VRM box is an integral part of my audio arsenal. Nobody else has anything like this. It is perfect for my application. The ability to keep working when speakers aren't available is invaluable. Since using VRM box, it has not left my laptop bag and I have used it for every mix since. You will have to tear VRM box away from my cold dead body in order to get it away from me.
